Motorola DynaTAC Series

The world's first mobile phone was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. It went on sale in 1983 in the US at the staggering price of $3995, and despite the price tag, was an instant success and had waiting lists of up to six months! It went on sale in the UK on 1st January 1985 and the very first phone call was made by Ernie Wise! It was followed in the UK in 1986 by the 8000s & in 1988 by the 8500x  and in the US in 1990 by the 8000m. These phones are all analogue, so will not work on modern networks as they do not use SIM cards.

Because these were the first truly mobile phones, they are amongst the most collectable and therefore amongst the most expensive. Please scroll down to see our current phones for sale. If you need more information, or photos before purchasing, please email us.

Motorola DynaTAC 8000x made in 1985. Model No - F09DTD8926AN. Serial No - 645CKE0022.

Phone with battery attached measures 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 8cm deep. Antenna is 20cm long. Weight of package is 1.56kg.

This is a good used example of this very rare and sought after phone. This is the original brick phone and the first handheld mobile phone ever made. This is the British Telecom version of this phone and was made in 1985, which was the first year the phone was launched in the UK.

The phone has general wear and tear and some dings, but is overall in very good condition for its age. The battery holds charge and powers up the phone. The keys are quite stiff ( which causes the numbers appear more than once on the screen), but they all work and the screen is bright and clear. It is very rare for the keys to all be working on these phones. The battery and antenna are in very good condition. The charger is in good used condition and fully working.  The leather case is in good condition.

This phone is guaranteed to power up for 30 days from delivery. See
The Smallprint for details.

The package consists of the phone, battery, antenna, charger with a UK type 3-pin plug and leather case.

A very rare working example of this iconic phone.
