Following on from the DynaTAC series, in the early 90s Motorola launched new brick phones that were 2cm less deep, but otherwise the same size. They were sold in large numbers, until much smaller phones became more popular. In the US these bricks were made up until the late 90s and many people in rural areas still use them because they have a better range than modern phones. In the UK the last of the bricks was the 888 made up until 1995.
Strangely, after the launch of these thinner phones, Motorola then brought out the Independent and Pulsar, which were the same size as the old DynaTACs. They did not sell well, and consequently not many have survived.
All these phones are analogue. Spares are available on the Motorola Brick Phone Accessories page

Motorola 8900x-2 made in 1994. Model No - F09YVD8991AA. Serial No - 7452UQ7V78.
Phone with battery attached measures 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 6cm deep. Antenna is 14cm long. Weight of package is 1.6kg.
These phones are very popular with collectors, and this example is in excellent condition. It has some small marks and has probably been used a few times. It comes in the original box and all the original accessories. The box is worn, has sellotape on it and the plastic insert is cracked. The phone powers up with the battery supplied and all the buttons work, although some need a firm push, probably due to lack of use. The box has only one battery, but there are sapce for two. This may be because someone has taken the other battery for use elsewhere, but it may be that this phone was supplied with only one battery and the second one was an optional extra.
This excellent phone is guaranteed to power up for 30 days. See The Smallprint for details. Package consists of the phone, battery, antenna, charging cradle, adaptor with a UK type plug, box, plastic inserts and user manual.

The original antenna has been lost and replaced with a brand new one. Phone with battery attached measures 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 6cm deep. Antenna is 14cm long. Weight of package is 1.5kg.
This unusual phone was only sold in the US and has the same circuits as the Classic/Ultra Classic. It is in good used condition, with some wear and tear, but no major problems. These phones are unusual in that they came with a video, which showed how to use them! Although this phone is used, the video is unused and still in the cellophane wrapper. The battery on this phone does not hold a charge and we do not have a replacement in the correct colour, so a battery eliminator is included, which powers up the phone from a car cigarette lighter.
Package is comprised of the box, phone, non-original battery, antenna, battery eliminator, video, user manual, adaptor with a US type plug and some original paperwork. This phone is guaranteed to power up for 30 days. See The Smallprint

Phone with battery attached is 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 8cm deep. Antenna is 7.5cm long. Weight of package is 1.0kg.
This is a very nice example of this rare phone, made by Motorola and sold under the Modar brand name. The keypad is excellent and the phone shows only minor signs of wear and tear with small scuff marks etc. It powers up with the charger plugged in, but the battery doesn't hold the charge for very long. Also the battery is slightly darker than the phone. It is an original Modar battery, but may have come from a different phone. Package comprises of phone, battery, motorola charger with a UK type plug and a non original antenna.
This phone is guaranteed to power up for 30 days subject to terms and conditions - See The Smallprint for details.

Ultra Classic

.JPG)
Motorola Ultra Classic made in 1991.
Phone with battery attached measures 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 6cm deep. Antenna is 2.5cm long. Weight of package is 0.6kg.
This is a very rare phone indeed. The Ultra Classic was made in large numbers and is not a rare phone, however every other example we have ever seen has the name of the phone service provider on the front with "Ultra Classic by Motorola" underneath in small letters. This one has only the Motorola name and symbol. Unfortunately the phone is quite scruffy and therefore is being sold at a much lower price than if it were in very good condition. The keypad has wear, the phone has ingrained dirt on the sides and back, one of the battery terminals has been damaged & repaired and there are three dents on the side (see photo). Having said all that, the phone is quite presentable from the front.
The phone does power up and displays green LED's, but the buttons don't work and it's being sold as a prop/display piece only. Package comprises of the phone, battery, antenna and user manual.

Motorola 8800x made in 1992. Model No - F09YVD8924BA. Serial No - 6452SAM675.
Phone with battery attached measures 19.5cm high x 4cm wide x 6cm deep. Antenna is 14.5cm long. Weight of package is 1.24kg.
This phone is in very good condition, with only minor wear and tear, although it looks like someone has glued a battery onto the back as the dried glue remains are still there. This does not show when the battery is in place. The clip at the base of the phone works, but has some damage, which may be why a battery was glued to the phone? The non-original battery holds a charge, the phone powers up and all the keys work as they should. The charging cradle, antenna and adaptor are very good. The box has some wear. The user manual is in very good condition, but has some writing in it.
This phone is guaranteed to power up for 30 days from delivery. See The Smallprint for details. Package consists of the box, phone, non-original battery, antenna, charging cradle, adaptor with a UK type 3-pin plug and user manual.

Motorola Personal Phones made in 1994. Model No - F09SQD8913BA/6BA. Serial Nos - 7452ULP464 & 7452UJ1940.
PhoneS with battery attached measures 16cm high x 6cm wide x 3.5cm deep. Antenna is 13cm long. Weight of package is 600g.
These Motorola Personal Phones, were designed to be a cheaper alternative to the usual mobile phones, for the infrequent user. They are unique in being the only Motorola mobile phone ever made that does not have a display. The line on the left of the keypad lights up red to green to show if their was a signal. The idea of the phones was that you would keep one in your car for an emergency.
The phones themselves are in good used condition, with some general wear and tear. The battery packs contain four standard rechargeable AA batteries which can be replaced. However, as the batteries have been sealed in them for 14 years, we have not attempted to open them. There is no charger with these phones and they are sold without any guarantee.
