Digital cameras have been developed over many years, but because of the cost and image quality, they were used mainly by scientists up until the early '90s when they were developed for everyday applications. For an interesting history of digital cameras and photography see here Digital camera history.
The cameras for sale use a wide variety of memory cards (Compact Flash, Smart Media, PCMCIA etc) a wide variety of serial cables (to connect to a PC) and a wide variety of image software, so we have not tested any of them for the purpose of the descriptions and guarantee. We have downloaded photos from many of the cameras, but some will only work on Windows, some only on Mac and most are time consuming. So although you can download the photos from most of them, they are not sold with a guarantee that you can. These cameras are really only for collectors.

This camera has a removeable memory card, which is a must as in uncompressed format, this camera will only store two images! It uses a Compact Flash memory card which can plug straight into some PCs or be used with a USB adaptor where there is no facility for the card.
This example is in very good condition, with a few marks here and there, but no damage. The LCD screen however is temperamental, which is common on these cameras as it hinges upwards to allow access to the battery and memory card slots. We tested the camera with batteries and a multi-voltage adaptor and everything works. The modern camera in the fifth photo is only to show the scale.
Package includes the camera, user's guide, software CD, picture postcard software CD & user's guide, some other paperwork and a Kodak 4mb Compact Flash card. This camera is guaranteed to work as described for 30 days from delivery. See The Smallprint for details.

This camera is in excellent condition, with barely a mark on it. It looks like it has hardly been used and very well looked after. We charged up the battery and it held lots of charge and we tested the camera and everything worked perfectly. This camera is very unusual in that it stores images on standard floppy disks. This also means that the camera is bigger than its predecessors, and was much bigger than other 0.3mp cameras available at the time. Despite this, it sold well and other Sony floppy disk cameras followed. (Everyone had a floppy disk drive on their computer). The battery charger lead is not original, and doesn't fit perfectly but does work.
Package includes the camera, rechargeable battery, battery charger, non-original power lead with a European 2 pin plug, user manual and battery charger operating instructions. This camera is guaranteed to work as described for 30 days from delivery. See The Smallprint for details.

This camera differs from today's cameras in that it has no removeable memory card, so you have to connect the camera to a PC via cable to transfer the photos. The best feature of this camera is the swivel lens, which means that you could take a photo of yourself, while viewing it on the LCD screen. Recently a camera manufacturer has launched a camera with a second LCD screen on the front, so you can do exactly the same thing!
This example is in excellent condition and looks brand new. We tested it using batteries and a DC adaptor and everything seems to work perfectly. The modern camera in the second photo is only to show the scale.
Package includes the camera, strap and case. This camera is guaranteed to work as described for 30 days from delivery. See The Smallprint for details.

This camera is a KXL-600A with the optional extra LCD Viewfinder KXL-D50. Together they were sold as a package known as KXL-601A and sometimes the CoolShot!
This camera is in very good used condition, with some wear and tear. The LCD Viewfinder is in excellent condition, with only very minor wear. It still has the protective plastic film on the screen. The camera uses a Compact Flash card to store and transfer images and it comes with a genuine Panasonic 2mb one. It also has a serial cable with yellow and white lead ends and a case and strap. The case and strap don't have the word Panasonic on them and are probably after market non-originals. The manual viewfinder on this camera pops up with the touch of a button, which has a magnifying lens.
We tested this very rare camera with batteries and DC power and everything works perfectly.
Package includes the camera, LCD Viewfinder, 2mb CF card, serial cable, case and strap. This camera is guaranteed to work as described for 30 days from delivery. See The Smallprint for details.

This is the world's first digital camera that could output moving picturesto a PC in MPEG format. It is capable of recording 20 minutes of real time MPEG-1 video, 3000 JPEG still images or1000 images with 10 seconds of audio for each still.
It is in very good condition, with some wear and tear, however it has two dents. One is just above the lens and the other is on the the top corner you can see them both in the photos). The rechargeable battery is missing, so we powered up this camera using a DC adaptor and everything seems to work well. The PCMIA hard drive is accessed by un-doing the cross head bolt on the side.
